Johnson County spreads across the southwest of the metro — Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa, and Shawnee. It grew later and greener than the Wyandotte bottoms, but its industrial and utility plants, manufacturing operations, and large institutional buildings reportedly used asbestos-containing materials in their heating, power, and process systems well into the 1980s. Maintenance and construction trades who serviced these facilities may have encountered asbestos in boiler rooms, on piping, and in building materials.
Claims arising in Johnson County are venued in the Tenth Judicial District, seated in Olathe — a separate court from Wyandotte’s Twenty-Ninth next door. Kansas’s two-year filing deadline (K.S.A. § 60-513) applies here as well.
